This guide shows how to connect Buffy to ChatGPT via MCP, following the “Developer Mode → Create app → Add MCP server → /command” flow.
What you’ll need
- A Buffy account (sign up at buffyai.org).
- Your Buffy MCP URL and an agent API key from the Buffy dashboard (Account → Agent setup).
1) Enable Developer Mode
In ChatGPT, go to Settings → Apps → Advanced Settings and turn on Developer Mode.
2) Create app
Click Create app and name it Buffy.
3) Add MCP Server
Add an MCP server:
- Name: Buffy
- MCP server URL: (copy from your Buffy dashboard)
- Authentication: OAuth
- OAuth Client ID / Secret: leave blank
4) Authorize access
The first time ChatGPT uses Buffy, you’ll be redirected to Buffy. Click Authorize to grant access.
5) Add Buffy to ChatGPT
In the chat input, type /buffy and press Enter to attach Buffy to the current chat.
6) Try it out
Example prompts:
- “Use Buffy to create a weekday morning startup routine: water, plan 10 minutes, stretch. Remind me in Telegram.”
- “Use Buffy to show my daily briefing for today.”
Troubleshooting
- OAuth loop / can’t authorize: Confirm Developer Mode is enabled and the MCP server is set to OAuth (Client ID/Secret blank).
- Can’t find
/buffy: Confirm the app is named Buffy and Developer Mode is enabled; then try starting a new chat. - Tool doesn’t run: Reopen the app/tools panel and ensure the MCP server URL matches what Buffy shows (dev vs prod environments can differ).
